Our Story

We AMPLIFY the voices of women of color in STEM because WE NEED TO BE HEARD!

We’re the brains behind space launches and major discoveries. We’re the doctors, the scientists, the engineers you wish you learned about in your history books. We’re role models for the next generation.

We all know what it’s like being the only woman or person of color in the room. It happens more frequently in science, technology, engineering, and math which can make your career or academia feel like a lonely space. Sistas in STEM is here to remind you that YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

We don’t have to listen to someone else to tell us how marginalized women of color are, how hard we have it in the workplace, or how few of us are pursuing STEM careers – We Know it! We are living it day after day – and it’s time for us to control our narrative.

Sistas in STEM is a resource for Black women and women of color to be educated, connected, and empowered in their daily lives and their passion for STEM.

We educate our peers on professional opportunities, career paths, scholarships, and STEM leaders who have paved the way.

We connect the STEM community building bridges that lead to mentors, future business partners, advocates, friends, and more.

We empower women by sharing stories, career and life advice to push one another toward our goals and well-rounded sense of self.

Become the positive force you wish to see...

Our Founder

Hey Sistas!

My name is Brittany A.J. Miriki and I’m the founder of Sistas in STEM. Like many of you, I’m a young woman navigating through her career in STEM. I graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a B.S. Mechanical Engineering in 2016. Since then, I’ve explored career opportunities in various industries which led me to join one of the top tech companies. My interests go far beyond the workplace. I have a vision to bring the voices of Black women and women of color in STEM to the forefront. I created Sistas in STEM to unify our community and mobilize this vision. What started as a small organization in college has grown to impact many women from all walks of life. I enjoy connecting with all of you and hope to inspire more to join our STEM tribe.
