SIS Spotlight: Billye Boddie

Meet Billye Boddie!

Billye is a Telecommunications Engineer striving to make an impact in her field and beyond. At the beginning of her career, she spent many late nights teaching herself the latest IT skills in hopes of advancing to the next level. When she received her first networking project her interest was piqued and there was no turning back. She sought out guidance from networking engineers within the company and, of course, they were all men. Nevertheless, with mentorship, training, and books/articles to reference she continued to progress.

She received her Cisco CCENT certification, enrolled in a technical college and joined their women’s technology club. It was here that she

first became interested in promoting more women in tech fields. Billye took her passion into the classroom by speaking at schools to enlighten children on STEM and career professionalism. She fueled the curiosity in many young girls and noticed that they were eager to learn much more. This inspired Billye to build her company, STEM to Greatness, where she develops technology related books and workshops for youth to teach them STEM skills. Her goal is to help create more innovators and stimulate an interest that is already within them.

Recently, Billye released her first book, “Bella dear The Engineer”, and it has already received amazing  reviews including #1 New Seller on Amazon. Her educational storybook relates engineering, confidence, and creativity as the reader follows the adventures of a young girl named Bella.

“Young girls deserve to know their limitless possibilities in STEM. That is why I wrote this book to encourage them to discover what’s possible for them in STEM.”

Our Interview

SIS: What inspired you to write your book, “Bella dear, The Engineer”?
Billye: I was inspired by my own story, my inquisitiveness and creativity as a child. My vision was to expose girls to a different way of having fun and at the same time spark an interest in technology and engineering. It is not that girls aren’t interested, it is more about exposing them with the information and the tools to learn.

SIS: How do you think your book will impact young girls, their families, and other readers?
Billye: I believe girls be be more open to using their imagination to create things that started as a vision. Families are already responding with pictures and video of their children building and describing their new creations. Readers are encouraged to explore the world around them.

SIS: What’s next?! Are you creating a “Bella dear” series?
Billye: We are currently in the development stages of producing another Bella dear book. This book will focus on technology as well as a few additional educational surprises that kids will look forward to.

SIS: What contribution do you want to make in life to help empower women and girls in STEM?
Billye: I have been making contributions through my work with the Women in Technology organization, school workshops and books. I am also working on a huge project for middle school girls. This information is forthcoming and will take place this fall. My goals is to encourage more women and girls in STEM fields. We need more people in the room that can advocate for us.
